The Voge DS900X: A 400-mile Test Ride
I recently embarked on a 400-mile test ride on the Voge DS900X, a motorcycle that promises to be a capable distance bike. The goal was to uncover the bike's strengths and weaknesses, and to see if it could handle the rigors of a long-distance journey. Here's what I found out.
The Good Bits
One of the most impressive features of the Voge DS900X is its rider aids. The speedometer is accurate, and the cruise control is easy to set and adjust. However, I did find it annoying that there's only one trip, and you can't access the menu or reset it on the move. The lack of a range calculator is also a downside, as it would have been useful for planning my route.
The Voge DS900X has two modes: sport and road. In sport mode, the power delivery is exciting and lively, but it can be inconsistent and unpleasant. In contrast, road mode is much smoother and more suitable for everyday use, especially when carrying a pillion. This is a great feature for those who want to share the riding experience with a friend or family member.
The Bad Bits
The navigation system on the Voge DS900X is not perfect. While it's easy to operate and works OK, it can get confused around motorway and A-road junctions and slip roads. The display hasn't been designed around the nav's graphics, which can be messy to look at. However, I never got lost, so it's not a deal-breaker.
The ergonomics of the Voge DS900X are generally good. The heated, one-piece seat is roomy and comfortable, and I could sit for two hours before my sciatic nerves started to request a stop. However, after a couple of hours, it starts to get a bit knees-y, and an inch lower and further back on the pegs would be perfect. The suspension is also overly soft as standard, but it has meaningful adjustment that's easy to tweak.
Overall Thoughts
I'm hopeful that the first service might loosen things up, especially the clunky quickshifter. The Voge DS900X is a great distance bike, and I arrived home feeling fresh, which is a great sign of its ability. However, I did have some concerns about the keyless ignition, as I'm afraid I'll leave the fob in a petrol station. Overall, the Voge DS900X is a capable motorcycle, but there are some areas where it could be improved.
