Tragic Drowning Incident: Two Men Lose Their Lives in Never Never River (2026)

Two men have tragically lost their lives in a drowning incident at the Never Never River, located north of Bellingen. The incident occurred on a Sunday evening, around 6:45 p.m., when emergency services were alerted to a distressing situation on John Locke Place, Gleniffer. Three men, all believed to be in their 30s, entered the river and soon began to struggle. Despite the swift response of emergency services, two of the men were pulled from the water but tragically could not be revived and died at the scene. A 33-year-old man was also rescued and transported to the Coffs Harbour Health Campus with minor injuries, where he remains in a stable condition. Adding to the tragedy, a 31-year-old pregnant woman, who was a friend of the three men, was also treated for shock and is currently in a stable condition at the same hospital. The scene has been cordoned off as a crime scene, and a report will be prepared for the coroner, leaving the community grappling with the loss of two lives and the impact on those affected.
